Staying at Walt Disney World Resort and close by

Staying at one the many on-site resort hotels is the ultimate Disney experience. You are enveloped in the world of Disney at all times and it can make the experience unmatchable. It is however, more expensive and there are other options outside the resort that are available to suit all budgets that you might like to consider too.

Staying On-site or Off-site

An on-site hotel or Disney resort is a hotel owned and operated by Disney World It is staffed by Disney Cast Members and will include Disney perks. The hotel is located within the Disney World Resort.

Off-site hotels are owned and operated by third party vendors. Most are located outside the Disney World Resort although there are some exceptions.

Furthermore, Walt Disney World Good Neighbor Hotels are not owned by Disney but instead have partnerships with the company. A Good Neighbor Hotel carries a special designation that denotes its ties to Disney World, and it’s a signal that you can expect a certain level of care and quality when you stay at one. Some offer early park entry and other perks.

Choice of Resort

Disney World Resorts are split into three categories, Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Deluxe Resorts with several resorts in each tier.

  • Disney Value Resorts the cheapest hotels and are perfect for families on a budget, being the most basic of the resorts with fewer perks and amenities although they include themed pools, playground, a shop, and food court and still having the convenience of free Disney transportation. The rooms are comfortable with either two double beds or a king. If you’re not going to spend lots of time at the hotel and just want a standard pool this is the best value for you.
  • Moderate resorts usually the best value with nice size rooms and ample amenities and pools, including on-site restaurants. They are normally set on a larger campus with beautiful gardens ideal for walks and wonderful architectural details that convey that resort’s theme.
  • Deluxe Villas include all the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) properties and the Fort Wilderness Cabins providing certain perks, such as more space, a kitchen or kitchenette, and additional amenities compared to standard hotel rooms on Disney property.

There are currently more than 30 Disney Resort Hotels to choose from in the Disney Resorts collection, see list of current Disney Resort Hotels.

Off-site Accommodation

Staying off-site can be more cost effective and provide more dining and entertainment options.

Numerous hotels provide complimentary shuttle services to the primary parks and attractions, though you might need to pay a nominal fee, and the shuttles may not operate as frequently as those at Disney hotels.

Keep in mind that travel times can vary; traffic in Orlando isn’t very accommodating. The further you are from the parks, the more traffic you’ll encounter, which will affect how much time you can enjoy at the parks.

Deals can be found for families looking for more space including villas and luxury lodging with services for the same cost. An off-site suite in a hotel or condominium can cost as little as half that of an equivalent suit on Disney property depending on the time of year. Dining options can vary considerably depending on where you decide to stay. Additionally most hotels provide complimentary breakfast buffets which you can fill up on before going to the parks.
