The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Diagon Alley
Diagon Alley is famously recognized as the setting of the same name in the Harry Potter series, both in books and films. It opened its doors in July 2014 and is one of the two areas in the Wizarding World, with the other being Hogsmeade Village, which is home to Hogwarts Castle.
As you step into Universal Studios, you might find it a bit challenging to spot Diagon Alley since it’s hidden behind a themed London Waterfront that features replicas of famous London landmarks.
In this area, you’ll be entertained by street performers and come across plenty of photo opportunities, including the can’t-miss Knight Bus, as well as food stalls and shops offering a variety of exclusive merchandise.
Kings Cross Station
Moreover, this is the location of King’s Cross station and the Hogwarts Express, an attraction that necessitates having 2 park admission tickets since it serves as the primary transport for guests traveling from Universal Studios to Islands of Adventure.
Additionally, if you spot the red telephone box, it conceals the secret entrance to the Ministry of Magic.
So where is Diagon Alley?
After you have explored the London themed area and had your photo taken with the conductor and shrunken head of the Knight Bus. Locate a small entrance between King’s Cross station and the Old Fear Factor, to discover the awesome Diagon Alley. There are plenty of magical shops to explore and places to eat including the famous Leaky Cauldron.
Alongside Diagon Alley runs Horizont Alley featuring some of the best shops and eateries in all of the wizarding world including Gringotts Bank.
Rides and Attractions
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
Walk through the bustling streets of Diagon Alley and approach the magnificent, towering white marble facade of Gringotts Bank.
It is hard to miss with its mighty fire breathing dragon perched high above on one of the banks turrets. Inside its impressive walls is a chandelier-adorned lobby, marble columns and tall floor to ceiling windows.
The queue winds through the bank’s grand lobby, where you are greeted by goblin bankers, incredibly detailed audio-animatronics, hard at work behind counters.
Whilst waiting for the ride to commence you are entertained by two amazing pre shows which prepare you for your tour of the underground vaults.
The Ride
After descending via the Gringotts rattly elevator you board a 12-person mine cart and are launched forward and down into darkness!
Experience the thrill of encountering dragons and Voldemort’s allies as you spin through the caverns, where a blend of physical sets and enormous 3D projection screens await you. Get ready to meet Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange in person as they unleash curses right at your cart (in 3D), allowing you to feel their dark magic through simulated spell impacts, mist, and various sensory effects.
The ride reaches its peak in an exhilarating sequence where you just escape the dragon’s fire and appear to plummet through the collapsing ruins of the bank.
